An Evening of Insightful Conversation with Prof. Sergio Nasarre-Aznar

In the evening of 26th January 2024, PACES had the honour to host Professor Sergio Nasarre-Aznar (Sergio) for an insightful conversation in a lovely dinner setting in Dago, North Bandung. He visited the lovely city of Bandung as one of a few key speakers in the 2024 International Students Conference.

Sergio is a Full Professor of Civil Law and currently holds the position of Director of the UNESCO Housing Chair at the University Rovira I Virgili in Spain. He has an extensive portfolio of experience, both in academia and in practice. He serves as a consultant of the EU Commission, the Catalan Parliament and Government, Amnesty International, FAO and the Association of German Pfandbrief Banks. He specializes in housing laws where his experience has taken him to take part in more than 40 national and international research projects such as about tenancies, evictions and homelessness, cross-border acquisition of land, mortgage consumers and collaborative economy. Since 2018, he has also served as an advisor to the German Ministry of the Interior, Construction and Community for the implementation of housing policies in Europe in its European Presidency in 2020 (see more https://www.linkedin.com/in/sergio-nasarre-aznar-a8883225/).

In the discussion, PACES was represented by Dr. YP Hermawan and Ms. Cristine Tjong. Also present was Ms Annisa Paramita Wiharani (Mbak Icha), our lecturer in IR Department who represented UNPAR as the Manager of International Affairs at UNPAR’s International Office. In the meeting, Sergio was introduced to PACES including, but not limited to, our vision and missions, our programmes, and research interests. The meeting saw the four figures discussing lightly about a range of topics such as housing situation in Indonesia, current situation in Spain and Britain, as well as Sergio’s extensive experience working with the European Union.

In this meeting a range of possibilities for cooperation between PACES and Sergio was also discussed. Mas Pur invited Sergio to share some of his knowledge in both workshop and guest lecture settings that PACES is currently planning for to be held in the upcoming semester. Sergio welcomed the ideas with open arms and we look forward to seeing the plans come to fruition very soon.
