MoU Signing between UNPAR and Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute: Fulfilling the Hopes of Robust Educational Cooperation between Indonesia and Ukraine

March 13, 2024 was marked as one of the important days in PACES’ agenda as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) and  National Technical University of Ukraine, or widely known as Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was conducted.

The significant meeting was attended by representatives of all parties, notably His Excellency Arief Muhammad Basalamah as the Ambassador of Indonesia to Ukraine, along with Ir. Catharina Badra Nawangpalupi, Ph.D. as the Vice Rector of UNPAR for Cooperation, Alumni, Innovation, and Prof. Sergiy Sydorenko Ivanovych as the Vice Rector for International Relations of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) who signed the MoU. Also attending the gathering was Dr Yulius Purwadi Hermawan (Mas Pur) as the Head of PACES along with Ms Adelia J and Mr M Shiddiq as research assistants and Prof Sukawarsini Djelantik, former Head of PACES who initiated the cooperation. 

The MoU marks a start of a prospective collaboration between UNPAR and KPI, which also contributes as a part of Indonesia-Ukraine diplomacy in the field of higher education. It was acknowledged that strong partnership, foundation as well as trust within the relations are what they needed in the current time, especially as UNPAR and KPI have many similar goals even though geographically they are located far apart. Such strong interest was also presented by Mr. Basalamah as the Indonesian Ambassador who reassures that the Embassy of Indonesia in Ukraine is always ready to help foster the cooperation between Indonesia and Ukraine. 

Spokespersons of UNPAR and KPI, Prof. Sukawarsini Djelantik and Prof. Olena Akimova further reflects said eagerness as they unveil several details of potential fields of the collaboration. Along with cooperations in the department of political and technical sciences, the agreement also highlights possible future partnership between research institutions belonging from both parties which includes the participation of PACIS as well as PACES from UNPAR.  

The meeting ended with the signing of the  MoU by Mrs. Nawangpalupi and Mr. Ivanovych each represented UNPAR and KPI respectively. The MoU further solidified the efforts to foster educational development for both institutions, and ultimately, both countries.
